I know someone who weaves in and out of my life–a single message comes just when I think we’re going to slip out of each other’s lives as quickly as we slipped in. I’ve started to adapt. Rules that probably exist only in my mind. Just be normal. I’ve learned there are ways to ask the other person what they’re doing without explicitly asking because you want to see them. This is what happens in our texts. Or this is what I think is happening. I don’t know how to play this game, but I still do.
An excerpt from Mixed Messages which I really enjoyed today, a stream of conscious piece that weaves through the gory mixed feelings that arise through different text practices.

Virgil Abloh’s definition of open source
Check out Abloh’s show notes for Louis Vuitton, this Margiela ad that feels like a direct execution of embedding instructions in the garment and a step by step guide to starting a brand.
The Ins and Outs 2023 Forecast in Dirt
My personal favourites:
IN: Establishing new channels to produce, distribute, recommend, and discuss media, no matter how small, no matter how (seemingly) insignificant. Word of mouth has always, ALWAYS been the ultimate recommendation algorithm, but too many people — and I include myself here — have been a bit lazy about it. In 2023, we'll find more and better ways to speak to one another; to whisper and shout about exciting new work.
IN: Cozy online third places, touching grass, hobbies ideally in nature, collective curation and storytelling
IN: Doing one thing at a time […] I dreamed that night of having the time and freedom to work on only one thing for a long period. The reality is that I can’t: I have to earn a living, which means splitting my attention between things that generate income (several) and things that don’t (usually one at a time). I’m pragmatic about this, it is what it is. But surely I can nonetheless allow myself to become obsessed by something. I can spend what free time I have with one thing if I want to (even that verb, to spend, like the feeling of checking your bank account after a long weekend). I can let this obsession be a good thing. Even if it has to fit around the hours of my day job, surely I can allow something the space to become absorbing. Can I reframe this kind of pure focus as something pleasurable, rather than an insurmountable challenge in modern life? In 2023 I want to find out.
@laurentdelrey
One of my favourite creative thinkers out there who’s always pushing the boundaries tongue in cheek and releasing all sorts of cool stuff in what feels like a prolific fashion. See: AI cameras à la Teenage Engineering style, custom notification badges & so much clever reinterpretation of iOS on his profile and more on his website.
Endless Summer Collage Work
Our Legacy Work Shop x Stussy teamed up for a collaboration in 2020 but their collage work still feels relevant amidst what has been described as “refinement culture” where every aesthetic from brands looks bland, and/or the same. Check out more from the campaign here.
Miansai x Gab Bois
A jewellery collaboration from Miansai (“artisans of elevated aesthetics”) and Gab Bois (“cutting edge digital artist”) inspired by technology. Explore the collection here.
